Chapter 1:
17 Years Later
A bright light interrupted Aria’s nightmare as she groaned, pulling the blanket over her head. “Princess you need to wake up!” Her maid Elaine said as she tapped Aria’s forehead, Aria knowing a smile was on her face.
“But Whyyyyyy?” Aria whined, her red hair glowed in the sunlight perfectly as she finally opened her green eyes brighter in the sun as well as Elaine let out a small burst of laughter.
“You have a busy day, and a new Prince to meet.” She stated as she pulled the covers off Aria, Aria immediately curling up into a ball as her source of warmth was suddenly ripped from her body.
She let out another groan as she sighed and glanced up at Elaine, “I would prefer not to attend to that.” She replied back haughtily, but Elaine was now putting a dress on her bed. “Get up and eat your breakfast.” Elaine finally said sternly. Aria sighed as she climbed out of bed, straightening her nightgown as she sat down at her table, staring at what she had and quickly starting to eat, as Elaine got everything together. Once Elaine started to get frustrated, you didn’t want to dilly dally, because the lady would definitely make you regret it.
A few minutes later, Aria was whisked off toward her bath, and after that into a tight fitting violet gown that went perfectly with her red hair. The dress was half-sleeved with a circular mid-high collar. With it she wore violet friends, Elaine brushing her long hair and curling it perfectly with the brush, the power of magic being infused in the brush. Elaine to Aria was a perfectionist and made sure she was perfect before she even left her room each morning. That was one thing Aria always loved about her, because she did it with no complaint and with absolute loyalty.
Aria glanced in the mirror and straightened her dress one last time before she left the room, Elaine following her as Aria walked down the hallways. Her parents happened to be King and Queen of a large land called Lazuria. Lazuria was one of the largest lands in all the dimensions. It was a highly cherished land and Aria was a highly cherished princess. Over the years she had finally come out, and rumors were spread but always extinguished. Now that Aria was seventeen, her parents had immediately started searching for a Prince to combine dimensions with and take care of Aria. Aria however, never agreed with and had gotten rid of six Princes in the last few months. She knew her parents’ patience was wearing thin, but she couldn’t help it. Most Princes were either pigs, why to polite, or completely power obsessed.
Elaine opened the doors to the throne room, as Aria stepped forward into it and glanced at her parents. She looked absolutely nothing like them. The only similarity was her green eyes, and they matched her fathers. Her mother had an olive-skin tone, her blonde hair matching perfectly with her bright blue eyes. Both of her parents were slim, her mom incredibly skinny. Her father was more of a lanky man, with brown hair. Aria herself was tanner then her own parents, but skinny just like them. Sometimes it didn’t make sense to her, but she figured she took after some distant relatives.
“Morning Mother, morning Father.” Aria said politely as she curtsied. Her mother gave her a small smile as she continued to sit there. Aria also didn’t understand why they had to meet in the throne room every morning and go over plans for the day, but it was the norm for Aria.
“Morning Aria.” Her father replied, “Shall we go over what you will be doing today?” He asked, forcing a small smile to come onto his face. Aria shrugged a bit as she glanced at the ground for a moment before averting her eyes back up, “Elaine has already discussed it.” She grumbled unhappily.
The king nodded, satisfied, “Well Prince Mark will be arriving at lunchtime; in the meantime, you will attend your combat class.
Aria nodded as the door to the throne room burst open and a man in all black walked in, a wolf trailing behind him. “Ah! Lucar! Just in time for Aria’s combat lesson.” The King genuinely smiled this time as Lucar bowed. Aria thought Lucar was an odd, cruel man who had a harsh tone and was constantly snapping and lecturing her when he was around.
“Good morning your highness, now come Aria, we have little time.” He told her sternly as he turned on his heel and started walking out of the room. Aria followed him out of the room, as Elaine called out, “I will return with your combat clothes!” She chirped as she ran off. Aria rolled her eyes a bit as she followed Lucar down the hallway to the rather large combat room. When you’re a royal, it was always known that you would learn combat, so in a case of need, you could defend yourself.
The wolf, Ralph, stared at her as they walked and Aria raised an eyebrow, “what do you want?” she asked as the wolf let out a small growl. Lucar opened the door to the combat room and motioned her in. As soon as the door shut, it had been opened again by Elaine, holding her clothes, seemingly out of breath.
“Here you go milady!” She smiled as she flicked her wrists, and Aria was instantly dressed in a black tank top, leather black pants and black boots. Lazuria had always been odd with their sense of style. The women were the only women in all dimensions allowed to wear pants like a male during combat and horse riding.
Elaine disappeared quickly as Lucar tossed Aria’s sword at her from the corner of her eye. She raised her hand, her head turning toward him as she caught the sword. “Nice try,” She muttered, her voice showing a hint of edginess. Lucar gave her a slight smirk as he now grabbed his own sword.
“It’s been awhile since we’ve fought together, I heard Mister Ozra has been teaching you for a few years now.” He said as he swung his sword a bit.
Aria gave him a slight glare as she raised her sword, glancing at her angry reflection. “It’s not my fault that you decided to leave on a long “vacation.” She retorted back flustered her red eyes even brighter than normal.
Lucar gave her a grin, “well let’s see how far you’ve come shall we?” He asked as he gave Aria a playful bow. Aria rolled her eyes as she moved back her right foot in front of her left, situating her sword in front of her as she held it in her right hand.
In an instant they were both circling each other, Lucar grinning fully now as he kept his eyes trained on Aria, “not going to attack first this time?” He asked curiously.
Aria stared at him as she smirked, “Don’t you know Lucar? I prefer defense for fencing and general combat.” She stated as her body stayed tense.
Lucar chuckled again, “then I guess I will give you what you want.” He quickly stepped forward, his sword going forward quickly as he tried to prod her stomach. Aria stepped back and flung her sword at him, blocking the jab. She then stepped forward and tried to jab him with her own sword, him hitting it away quickly.
This went on for a few moments but then, as Aria went to jab at him again, he spun around her so quickly, and she barely had time to register him behind her. At the last little second, she turned around and deflected his sword, half an inch from touching her side.
He grinned as they started circling each other again, Aria panting only a bit. “My, my, my, you have improved Princess.” He stated.
Aria couldn’t help but roll her eyes again, “well it’s not like Ozra’s terrible, and practice does make more improvement.” Her tone was icy, a hint of sarcasm dripping out.
Lucar chuckled again as his voice became serious, “just remember Aria, you’ll never be better than me.” Suddenly he spun again, ducking as she tried to turn and jabbed his sword into her side roughly, feeling the prick on her skin, Aria scowled. The battle was officially over.
Lucar grabbed her sword and put the two swords back on the rack, “you’ll make a fine queen one day, combat wise.” He turned back toward her, a teasing smile on his face.
Aria shrugged as she let out a small yawn, “Not until I beat you properly,” she said simply as Ralph came up and nuzzled Lucar softly. Lucar pulled out his pocket watch and glanced at the time.
“I guess we’ll dismiss a bit early, you should go prepare for meeting Prince Mark, I suspect your parents will be highly upset if you mess this one up, so I advise you to just deal with it.” His face had turned serious again as he stared at her.
Aria shrugged as she gave him a sickly sweet smile, “no promises.” She turned on her heel quickly leaving the room, wanting to put distance between her and Lucar.
Aria hated being told what to do with her future, she wanted her own choice and that was what she was going to get. “We’ll see about that.” She murmured under her voice toward Lucar, knowing he couldn’t hear her.
