When I think anime, the first one that comes to mind is Bleach. In fact, the only thing I do not understand about Bleach is why it is called Bleach in the first place. I see no connection from the title to the storyline. If anyone can tell me, please feel free to.
The dynamic, epic and unique characters of Bleach snatched my attention from the very first episode. On top of that, it held my attention until the unfortunate cease of further episodes (needless to say, that pissed me and many other fans off). While Kurosaki Ichigo is the main character, he is not the character that claimed a spot on my favorite list. It is what makes Ichigo epic that did. That would be Ichigo's Hollow, the sinister and borderline barbaric creature that resides within Ichigo's subconscious. Yes, Ichigo by himself is a very head strong individual who fights enemies head on without remorse and does what he must to protect his friends and family. He also doesn't wish to see others around him saddened or oppressed. This is all good stuff, but without his Hollow, he would've died a long time ago.
While Ichigo with the help of his Hollow is the favorite hero of Bleach, the favorite villain of Bleach is none other than Ulquiorra Cifer. Though he has an edge of arrogance that tends to annoy the viewer, his cynical yet epic personality adds to the overall feel of the anime. His back story is quite shrouded in the same shadows that surrounds his characteristics and his modus operandi seems to be to degrade those who aren't on his level or Hollows. He may not be on the selfish, villainous level as Sosuke Aizen, but he does have his own plateau that even Aizen isn't on.
The many fights and near deaths are all great, which is the reason many have seen and love Bleach like I do. All that Tite Kubo needs to do is get it aired again and I, along with all others, can resume enjoying this epic anime!
