At the young age of 12, Xelio and his childhood friend, Aimi, went out to play in the woods like they usually did in the mornings. Pretending to be airplanes, they branched their arms out and ran around in a small, open field within the area. Laughing and playing, they soon heard a rustle from a bush and went to investigate, their curiosity piqued. Slowly creeping up to the bush, a small rabbit with black fur and white eyes suddenly popped out, causing the kids to fall back. While Xelio laughed loudly, Aimi began crying a little. As the abnormal rabbit got away, he helped her to stand, trying to comfort her.
When they both returned to his house about an hour later, they found that no one was home. His mother, who would usually be hanging the laundry around that time, was gone with no traces of her ever being there. Since his dad worked for most of the time, Xelio decided not to worry about him, having looked up to his dad for a long time. As they toured the house, they called out for his mom, eventually reaching his room. When they opened the door, they found the same black rabbit sitting comfortably on his bed. They walked towards it, Aimi hiding behind him in slight fear.
As Xelio reached out to it, looking deep into it’s eyes, a flash of light suddenly came from the rabbit, blinding them. When the light faded, the black rabbit was gone, leaving behind a messy bed. A little upset that it vanished, Xelio moved to spread the bed before grabbing Aimi’s hand and pulling her out of the room, warning her about his mother when he doesn't clean his room. She laughed a little, but looked back in the room, wondering how they got into his room into the first place. The rabbit had erased their memories of it, forcing them to forget it’s existence. When they walked outside, they found everyone in the village dead, laying on the ground with bloodstained clothing. Xelio immediately pulled Aimi’s face into his chest, preventing her from seeing the carnage. Although she questioned him and tried to pull away, he held to her tight, guiding her through the bodies to get her out of the area.
As they walked slowly, he felt a hand grab his leg. The feeling was cold and a liquid streamed down his leg from the hand. When he looked down, he saw his mother in a horrible state. Her body was cut clean in half and still bled out, while blood streamed from her mouth as tears streamed down her cheeks. She tried saying something but soon died, releasing her hold on his leg. The now terrified Xelio was crying silently, grabbing Aimi’s hand and running with her away from the village and into the forest.
Resting at the field from earlier that morning, Aimi dropped to her knees, holding her face in her hands, sobbing. As Xelio sat against a tree, his eyes dulled, and arms limp. Traumatized by the sudden incident, he held his head low. When he heard her crying, he slowly crawled over to her with a worried expression, wiping her tears and hugging her gently. After a few minutes of letting their feelings out, they calmed down and stood up, determined to find help for everyone in the village. Waking further away from the village, he burned a happy memory of his mother into his mind, not wanting to forget her. As a result, his hold on Aimi’s hand tighten a little.
As they traveled through the woods, clearly lost, they stopped during the night and slept quietly in hidden places, safe from most danger and such. Since his father took them out camping as kids, he had some experience living in the forest, making sure that Aimi never hungered for too long. Eventually, they came upon a small village in the forest, far away from their home. Exploring the village, he stayed in front of Aimi, holding a long, spear-like weapon for protection. Unfortunately, the village had been abandoned, but luckily, fresh food was still in most of the homes. As they searched one of the houses, they came across the rabbit.
This time, an old sheet of paper was placed next to it as it sat on the bed. Interested, Xelio picked up the paper and began to read it, raising an eyebrow at the content of the page. “If you are able to touch the mystical being, you shall be granted a special power strong enough to protect the one you love, only at the cost of something dear to you.” Foolishly, he decided to accept what seemed to be a challenge. Placing the paper elsewhere, he handed his spear to Aimi and tried reaching out to the rabbit. Immediately, the same light from before shone bright again, though it caused him to remember the rabbit.
Pulling back a bit, he reached out once more, shielding his eyes with his other arm to block the light. Soon enough, his hand began to feel a burning sensation, causing him to wince at the pain. Aimi, on the other hand, had fell to her knees when she remembered the rabbit and the incident at the village. Although it caused him great pain, the thought of being unable to protect Aimi allowed him to push through, successfully touching the rabbit. Once he did, the light retreated into a white aura coating the small animal, which soon jumped through Xelio’s chest and into Aimi’s body, knocking them unconscious for a while.
When he awoke, he found Aimi laying on the floor in pain, blood streaming from her mouth from an unknown reason. Panicking and crying, he picked her up and carried her outside, calling out for help at the top of his lungs. Unfortunately, the village was already abandoned and the chance of someone hearing him was little to none. Dropping to his knees, he placed her carefully on the ground and held her hand tight, sobbing silently once again. The pain of losing the only person he had left in his life was far too great for him to handle. He soon heard Aimi giggle quietly before coughing up a bit more blood.
When he looked at her, she had a smile on her face, looking up at him as her eyes dulled. He saw her lips move just before she took her last breath. When he noticed she stopped breathing, something inside him seemed to have shattered immediately. He kept crying for a while, hugging her progressively cooling body.
|| Whether it was for better or worse, the power he was granted allowed him to transfer what was left of her soul into him, creating a small, silver chain with a black heart around his neck. As remuneration for the short summoning, he’d be unable to do what his heart desired and he would only be able to be with her for a set period of time, though it would be months before he’d see her again afterward. ||
-Three years later-
After finding the perfect place for his little project, he stood out in the open on a perfectly leveled, grassy field. After stretching a bit, he bent to one knee and placed his left palm on the ground, concentrating. With a vivid image of what he wanted to create burned into his mind, a white silhouette came up from his abnormal shadow, moving to wrap her arms around his neck. The silhouette soon took more of a human form, revealing a young girl wearing a white dress with small sunflower designs. She remained bare-footed and her skin was a pale white, almost as if she was a ghost.
A black scar could be seen on her throat through her long strands of white hair which rested gently on his shoulders. From his hand came a thin sheet of glass about 10 inches wide, travelling quickly through the grass. Once it reached almost 35 feet away from his hand, the glass branched out and began building a small wooden house, big enough to live in, of course. In a matter of a few seconds, the house was complete, shining in the sunlight. As he stood up straight, the girl intertwined her fingers with his, raising his arm up to the building.
With tears streaming down his cheeks, a white mist of light traveled from their hands into the building, forming the furniture. Although it took a bit longer than the glass, the mist soon dissipated, indicating the finishing of the internal design of the home. Walking alongside each other and holding hands, they stood on the porch, turning to face the scenery of the vast, grassy field and the forests and mountain range that outlined the horizon. The sunlight shone bright through the clouds that roamed the skies. Facing each other, he leaned in to do the one thing he'd always wanted to do, kiss her.
Unfortunately, just before their lips touched, she suddenly vanished, small pieces of broken light crashing to the ground before dissipating. With more tears streaming down his cheeks, he cried in silence, falling to his knees as sad memories of her flooded his thoughts...
