This isn't really a story but it's a C&C essay I wrote :3
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 3 are both exciting videogames. They are both first person shooters with decent campaigns and great multiplayer. Even though they are both first person shooters, and have many similarities, they are also both unique in their own way. You can play both games and see what I mean. They have similarities in player leveling, weapon load outs, and vehicles, but there are differences that make both games unique and fun to own and play both.
In both Black Ops 2 and Battlefield 3, a player can connect to a game server that may be running one of many game modes. In both games the player can get experience points for killing enemies, and capturing or defending objectives. In both games you can unlock things for leveling up, and it’s also kind of bragging rights to other gamers. Unlike Battlefield 3, Black Ops 2 has the option to “prestige” your player after reaching level five, and you can prestige 10 times. Doing this sets your player to level one, but allows you to continue leveling up using the higher-level equipment. Unlike Black Ops 2, in Battlefield 3 the player can not choose to prestige, but instead has a higher maximum level of 100.
There are some great pieces of equipment I love using in Battlefield 3 and Black Ops 2. For the most part, equipment wise is pretty similar for both games. The weapon names might be different, but in both games you have the same weapon classes like assault rifles, submachine guns, snipers, launchers, pistols, and shotguns. The main difference between the games is how you get the weapons and equipment. In Black Ops 2, you unlock weapons, other equipment, and “wildcards” based on your player level. In Black Ops 2, you can unlock your attachments by using the weapon a lot. Any time you attack an enemy with a weapon, you get experience with that weapon and can level it up. Weapon attachments are unlocked at various levels. In Battlefield 3, you get new weapons and weapon attachments based on experience gained as a class. If you are a sniper on Battlefield 3, you can unlock weapons by getting any experience, not just using the weapon, but you only get weapons as that class. In Battlefield 3, you can also get weapons when you reach a certain player level. Certain weapons that you can use in any class, like select pistols, shotguns, and SMGs, get unlocked based on your player level.
Vehicles are another interesting point of these two games. Both games have planes and helicopters. In Black Ops 2, the vehicles are “called in” as kill streak rewards. You can call in a bomber plane or napalm strike, but you only designate the target. With some helicopters, you can have direct control, but only for a limited amount of time. In Battlefield 3, there are not only helicopters and planes, but there are also tanks, jeeps, and ATVs. In Battlefield 3 you have direct control of all these vehicles. In Battlefield 3, there are also aircraft carriers, but those are just part of the map that planes can take off and land from; you do not control them.
Now, which game will you choose, or do you like both? Whether you’ve played both of these games, just one, or neither: You can hopefully now tell at least some of the similarities and differences between these two games. There are some huge similarities, but overall I think there are more differences than similarities. They are both the same genre and have partially similar gameplay, but I think that the differences when it comes to getting weapons and using vehicles are just so huge that it makes both games unique.
